Still tied!

This is not the most votes we've ever had for a finals but it is certainly the closest finals we've ever had. As of 7:45 PM CST we are all tied up. In rounds prior to the finals we usually will move the higher seed ahead but that doesn't seem fair to do in a finals. We'll let this go a while longer and in the meantime we'll start getting information about the Greatest Underrated Band of All Time up.

Finals extended

Due to the finals being tied (and a birthday) we're going to let the finals ride for another day. The next tournament will start at that time - check back tomorrow!

Thanks!

The finals are here!

Here we go - this should be good. The iconic Marilyn Monroe vs Jessica Alba. Marilyn had a bigger victory percentage wise than Jessica did but in total votes it was very close. We are guessing an upset in the making and we predict Jessica Alba will defeat Marilyn in a close vote.

Voting will end Wednesday night.

After the voting ends the next tournament for Greatest Underrated Band will be up. Speaking of the next tournament keep submitting your suggestions or else I get to fill it with artists I like. :) Remember the criteria is if the artist has had a gold album in the U.S. they aren't eligible. Solo and side projects from artists with Gold albums aren't eligible either. You can check to see if your artist has a gold album here.

Upcoming tourney

We're going to try something different with the next music tournament. The tournament after the Sex-Symbol tournament is going to be The Greatest Underrated Band or Artist. This is a tournament we've been wanting to do for a while but couldn't figure out a black and white way of saying "Nope, too successful to be underrated" because after all there will be people out there that think Nirvana are underrated.

Here is how we're going to determine officially underrated or not. If an artist has a Gold or Platinum album in the U.S. they cannot be in the tournament. Solo and side projects aren't eligible if the person is from a band that has reached Gold or Platinum status. As always we need your suggestions so if you're curious you can check your entry here

Here's some examples - Thin Lizzy has a gold album - not eligible. Y&T doesn't so they would be eligible. But we want your suggestions!

Semi-final are up

Singers bit the dust in the last round with Shania Twain and Gwen Stefani getting the boot. Shania put up an admirable showing against Marilyn Monroe losing by only 1 vote! It seems fitting that one of the stars of The Fantastic Four be in the final four entries of the tournament. Jessica Alba will be taking on Sarah Michelle Gellar in the finals of the right side of the bracket.

Voting will end Monday night.

Quarterfinals are up!

Both of Tommy Lee's wives are out of the tournament. Pamela Anderson was knocked out in the first round and Sara Michelle Gellar slayed Heather Locklear in the 3rd round.

The big winner in round three was Jennifer Love Hewitt with 78% of the votes defeating Kelly Preston horribly. The Body is a Wonderland girl now faces Gwen Stefani who has done very well in the tournament despite not being a "typical" sex-symbol.

Shania Twain is still in the tournament but we're not sure what she represents. She really isn't Nashville, grew up in Canada, but now lives in Europe (Sweden or Cleveland - one of those cold countries). Regardless, she's still in it and now faces the legendary Marilyn Monroe. Shania may not have the iconic status that Marylin has but we think she has a real shot of winning.

Voting ends Friday evening. Let's get it on!

She's single now isn't she?

3rd Round is up

3rd round match ups are set. Nice well rounded (so to speak) field is left. There is still some singers, TV stars, models, and movie stars making up the field.

There are still some underdogs in the field as well. The underdog of this round has to be Tia Carrerre going against Jessica Alba, who is one of the most popular movie stars today.

Weird first round

No real consistent winners in the first round. A lot of hard rock fans visit this so early bets would have been for Doro to advance over the Pop Gwen Stefani but it wasn't that close. Hard rock hanger on Pamela Anderson was also kicked to the curb in a surprising manner.

There is a good mix - everyone should see one that they like in the field that is left. There are movie stars, pinups, and TV stars.

Voting for the 2nd round ends Monday night with third round match ups being up soon after.

Greatest Female Sex Symbol Tournament is set

The suggestions were considered and brought before a panel of experts who diligently researched all entries. There were too many so some had to be left out but I can say with confidence that this is a very strong field.

Some of the names aren't really familiar until you look them up and go "Oh..her!"

Suggestions needed!

The poll for the next tournament is done and Female Sex Symbol won...and also came in 3rd place as well due to an error. Now that we have the premise all we need is the entries. Leave your suggestions in the comments of this posting - please no hardcore porno suggestions.

There were also some suggestions to shorten the tournament - if we get less than 64 entries we may try that.

The tournament will start Wednesday night but we need suggestions!

Rush wins!

Rush wins (again) and as voted by you they are The Greatest Live Act of All Time! Rush took on heavy metal legends Iron Maiden who put up an admirable fight but over-matched by Rush's loyal fan base.

Congratulations to Rush!

In the meantime all you Rush fans can vote in a little poll we have going to see just how many concerts the average Rush fan has seen. See you Monday.

We were going to do a Greatest Blog.....but uh no one cared so it has been scrapped. We don't like to do two music tournaments in a row because this isn't just a music site. The next tournament will be up Monday evening but if you have any suggestions for a fun tournament let know in the comments section.

BTW - the second Sex Symbol - Female should be male... in the poll on the side.

Here we go again

Rush vs Iron Maiden. We probably could have just posted this and skipped the other 62 bands...but then a lot of good arguments wouldn't have been started and ended. To anyone new to this site the Rush/Iron Maiden rivalry can get pretty heated so enjoy.
We tried to find as recent footage of both bands in the embedded videos so that the people who aren't in either camp can compare. Neither is professional footage.

Because of the late posting (Tue instead of Monday) we will let this one go till Friday to get back on track. Remember to submit your suggestions for Best Blog or otherwise we'll fill the bracket with our favorites...then have to hear everyone whine. :)

Let's get it on!

Semis are up

Quite simply four of the finest bands around. Also a good geographical representation as well with two English bands, one Australian, and Rush being the lone band left from the Americas.

Due to schedule changes voting will end Tuesday night not Monday.

Remember to submit suggestions for the best blog tournament.

Thursday, July 3, 2008

Upcoming tourney

The next tourney is going to be a bit different. We are going to determine the Greatest Blog of All Time. We don't care if it is political, entertainment, tech, dogs, UFO's or whatever - if it is a Blog and you feel it should be in the tournament submit your suggestions in the comments. Nothing related to porno will be in the tournament.

Quarterfinals are set

No real upsets in the last round but some big names will be dropping in the quarters and following rounds. The match up to watch this round is probably AC/DC and the Rolling Stones. We are going with AC/DC because this site tends to have a metal lean to it.

3rd round is up

The upset of the tournament so far has to be KISS being taken out solidly by YES! Makeup, fire, blood, and almost constant touring for 35 years couldn't help KISS against a band that I don't think has played a show in....a while.

This now creates an interesting scenario - will YES do the unthinkable and take Iron Maiden out? Any regular of this site knows Iron Maiden has either won or been in the final of every single music related tournament but we feel there is a real chance that YES may knock Maiden out before the semis. Theory being Rush and Yes are often linked as being "Progressive Rock" bands so all the Rush fans may vote for Yes. Iron Maiden fans might want to summon up some reserves just in case or else they will end up Dying With Their Boots On.

BTW - there are other great match ups also! Scorpions who have never done well in tournaments have advanced farther than ever, as well as U2. Metallica and Led Zeppelin should be a close one - we're giving the edge to Zeppelin.

Voting ends Wednesday night!
