There are some awesome match ups this round and it should be very interesting. Lemmy vs Frank Bello, Cliff Burton vs Geezer Butler, and John Deacon and Billy Sheehan are just some of the match ups.
Speaking of John Deacon - in every round he has barley made it past but ultimately won. Will John Deacon make it past Billy Sheehan?

Some big blowouts!
In the first round there are usually a few big blowouts but it's been a while since we've had this many. Some of the 80% and higher winners include:
Geddy Lee 83%
Phil Lynott 81%
Roger GLover 94%!!!
Les Claypool 82%
Steve Harris 91%
John Paul Jones 95%
Jack Bruce 83%
Jason Newsted 84%
Cliff Burton 86%
Geezer Butler 86%
Lemmy 82%
Dee Dee Ramone 83%
Phew....and there were easily that many with 70-79% of the votes. One thing to keep in mind though is that percentages don't reflect the number of votes cast. First place with votes received was Steve Harris by far! Right now Iron Maiden's bassist is the odds on favorite based on the number of supporters showed up for him.

The Simpsons win!
The Simpsons won in a big way over the show about nothing - Seinfeld. The Simpsons breezed through the whole tournament and the finals turned out out to be no different than other rounds. Congratulations to Homer and the rest of The Simpsons.
The Greatest Bassist match ups are set. There are some heavy hitters along with bassists with cult followings. It should be an interesting tournament.

This is it!
The finals are set - The Simpsons faces Seinfeld in what should be an interesting final. This is the first time that both of our finalist have been #1 seeds.
Voting ends Monday night which will also be the beginning of the Best Bassist tournament. We've had some submissions for Best Bassist but need more to fill the bracket.

Dead weight
All the shows left in the tournament are all excellent and in their own way been very successful and had a huge impact. Animation seems to be doing very well with three shows left.
Match-ups to watch are MASH vs Monty Python, The Sopranos vs Cops, and The Simpsons vs South Park. No one has yet to give The Simpsons a run for their money but Star Trek should be able to.
Voting ends Monday at 6:00 PM CST.

2nd Round is set
No real upsets here and quite a few blow-outs but you can’t read too much into a big winner in the first round because often it is as much a bad match-up as anything else. An interesting match-up is The Simpson’s vs Family Guy in a battle cartoons. Simpson’s seems like the obvious choice but Family Guy has a loyal following so it maybe close.

RUSH wins!
2112 is the Greatest Album of All Time! Congratulations to RUSH for an impressive victory over some excellent competitors. In fact if you look back at the bracket they arguably had the toughest competition from round 1 through the finals.

Finals
In most tournaments the finals are the most exciting part of the tournament but that may not be the case this tournament....but you never know. If some Zeppelin fans discover this site they may just take out Rush the same way Rush fans came in and saved 2112 from a 20% deficit to Pink Floyd in the 2nd round.
Since the outcome is probably obvious voting will end tomorrow as opposed to Wednesday. Voting traditionally ends on Mon, Wed, and Fri nights.
The Greatest TV Tournament Show Tournament will start tomorrow after this tournament ends.

Experiment
I found an online poll (that I didn't have to pay for) that should only allow 1 vote per day. Please try to break it and cheat and let me know if you can. If the cheating is at least made much harder I will switch over.
It is the 2112 vs Piece of Mind poll at the bottom.

In the words of Rush....
"If you chose not to decide you still have made a choice." And that is the official decision about this tournament - I will not decide. Voter fraud is as American as Apple Pie so screw it - go nuts cheat, have dead people vote, call in sick from work, or whatever it takes to have your band win.
Any decision, including this one, will do nothing but make people mad so the fairest thing to do is to stay out of it. Some will say "one or two people are ruining it for everyone" but then again those one or two people may carry your favorite to victory. Your perspective will depend on which side you end up on.
Couple notes:
Since this site is on blogger we can't set it up to have people log in to vote. Besides people would probably not bother if they were required to register.
The representation of the albums (Rush only had 1 and Iron Maiden had 3) isn't because of anything conspiratorial they were taken strictly from suggestions from people that frequent the site. The same way I started asking for TV shows for the next tourney was what I did weeks ago to get ready for the album tournament. Any regular to this site knows that if you make a suggestion for an entry odds are I will put it in. I try not to slant the tournaments to my taste but to the people visiting the site.
I know some of you will be mad and probably never visit this goofy site again but I'd still like to thank you for what has easily been the funnest tournament that we've had.

Dilemma
It seems we've run into a bit of controversy. I have been reading the comments and am still deciding what to do....if anything. In the meantime if the persons in Cawthorne UK, Waterford MI, Studio City CA, and Dayton OH could chill out a bit this tournament may play out a bit more naturally.
There seems to be sense that both bands should be thrown out and Zep declared the winner. Seems like a sad way to end this but let me know.
BTW - after the Best TV Show tournament I am planning on having The Best Bassist of All Time....Steve Harris or Geddy Lee...hmmmm I wonder if there will be any passion in that tournament?

One more time!
Will the third time be a charm? Surprise force of the tournament – Rush’s 2112 album – has knocked out the competition through 4 rounds so far in deciding fashion. Iron Maiden will get their third crack at derailing Rush with their classic PIECE OF MIND album going head to head against 2112.
The Iron Maiden/Rush feud has been very interesting and at times very heated but in the end Rush has pulled ahead and maintained it. It is still strange for us at this site to see Iron Maiden being sent home but after two solid defeats 2112 has to be the odds on favorite to win it all.
Oh by the way there is a little band on the other side of the bracket you may have heard of – Led Zeppelin. Led Zeppelin is guaranteed a slot in the finals with either HOUSES OF THE HOLY or IV (ZOSO). One interesting question is will Iron Maiden (or Rush) fans join forces with Zeppelin to defeat the other entry.

Looking forward
It's almost a shame to look forward to the next tournament when we have such a good fight on our hands but it is about that time. The next tournament is going to be "The Best TV Show of All Time".
This doesn't necessarily mean a series - if you think a sports program is best let us know and you think one-off show was best let us know. In other words any TV Show from anywhere is eligible.
We welcome all suggestions and it your chance to dictate the brackets - such as someone did a couple weeks ago when they suggested 2112. Leave your suggestions in the comments and until then let's get back to the epic battle we have on hand.

There is a new 400lb gorilla in the room.
As mentioned in a previous post this site’s music tournaments have been dominated by anyone and anything Iron Maiden. The question in music tournaments has been ‘will anyone give Iron Maiden a fight?’ but that has changed.
Rush fans turned out in huge numbers in support of Rush’s only album entry – 2112. Not only did Rush put up a fight they dominated. Now the question is can Rush maintain that same level of support because they face Iron Maiden again and possibly in the semifinals also! Rush will most likely have to beat Iron Maiden three times in a row just to make the finals. Can they keep it up…..we’ll see.
The only close match up this round was Blizzard of Oz vs. A Night At The Opera by Queen. The lead changed hands numerous times early on but on the final day Ozzy took a small lead and hung onto it.
Every time we predict close match ups we are wrong but here we go anyway. We think Back In Black vs. Houses of the Holy will be close but Back In Black will win by less than a 3% margin.

Some big surprises!
The 2nd round had some surprising victories. The biggest one had to be Rush's 2112 over Pink Floyd's The Wall. The Wall had at one time almost a 20 point lead but starting Sunday 2112 caught up and passed The Wall. So far Rush has beaten the Beatles and Pink Floyd's entries but now for the bad news....Rush now faces a tournament juggernaut in the form of Iron Maiden. Frequenters of this site know that Iron Maiden always dominates any music related tournaments so Rush will be facing a big uphill battle.
There were some great match ups - Screaming for Vengeance won over Heaven and Hell by only 1 vote! Ace Of Spades defeated 1984 by Van Halen by 3 votes.
This tournament has started out more competitive than most for the early rounds so it should only get better.

2nd round voting is now ready!
Some huge blowouts in the first round but it is probably a little too quick to start picking a winner just yet. Some of the blowouts were due to what could be more of a poor match-up rather than that much love for an album. The field as been reduced by half so 2nd round match-ups should be much closer and we should get a real indication of which albums have legs.
